Car park decks present a unique combination of waterproofing challenges. The membrane isn’t hidden and protected beneath tiles or screed — it is the driving surface, or immediately beneath a thin wearing course. It has to be waterproof and it has to be trafficable: abrasion-resistant, able to carry vehicle loads and point loads, resistant to oil, fuel and tyre scuffing, and durable under constant use.

Below-ground car parks add hydrostatic pressure to the mix — water pushing up through the base slab and in through perimeter walls. Elevated decks add thermal movement and the need to protect the occupied spaces below from any leak. Both add expansion joints that move continuously under traffic. It is one of the most demanding applications in the industry.

Survey & stage

We survey the deck condition, drainage and joints, and plan a staging sequence that keeps as much of the car park operational as possible throughout the works.

Prepare the deck

Concrete repaired, cracks and joints treated, surface mechanically prepared to the correct profile, and drainage corrected where needed.

Apply the traffic system

The trafficable membrane system installed to specified thickness with aggregate broadcast for slip resistance, and joints detailed for movement and traffic.

Line marking & handover

Line marking, bay numbers and signage reinstated, and a handover package of certificates, photographs and warranty provided.

Car Park Waterproofing FAQs

In almost all cases, yes. We stage car park works level by level or bay by bay so a proportion of the car park remains operational throughout. We coordinate closely with building management on timing, resident communication and temporary parking arrangements to minimise disruption.

Water coming through an elevated deck usually means the deck membrane or its joints have failed. We diagnose whether it’s the field membrane, an expansion joint, a crack or a drainage issue, then remediate — which for a failed deck coating means preparing the deck, treating joints and cracks, and installing a new traffic-grade system. Line marking is reinstated afterward.

A quality traffic-grade deck system, correctly installed and maintained, typically delivers many years of service before recoating — though wear in high-traffic zones like ramps and turning areas is faster and may need earlier attention. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to localised wear significantly extends the overall system life.
